Although not my first trip to Mt. Dora, it was my first time here. I am giving it two stars because the food was edible but not outstanding. The decor is colorful and seems fun but it also looks like an old mexican restaurant with parrots thrown in to make the name a little more obvious. My table mate had the veggie burger, which as a vegetarian, she was impressed with. Next time I visit Mt. Dora, I will probably try another restaurant before coming back here.

Great location, friendly staff, good service. Food was not impressive.. I had a fruit and chicken salad. The peaches were canned, the salad was slimy (enough that I sent it back) and the chicken did not seem like a recently cooked chicken breast, more like a precooked one from Sams club. But it wasn't horrible and again the staff was friendly and it was not over priced.

Three of us arrived at 2:30 for a late lunch about 3 weeks ago. M I'm still talking about it, so I felt I should post a review. This is my first ever. THE BEST VEGGIE BURGER I have had. I asked for some guacamole and was told I was in luck as it wasn't a regular item, but they had a Mexican themed dinner the night before. Any Sriracha I asked? Yes to that too. The oversized homemade veggie burger made with black beans and a variety of other vegetables topped with above mentioned items , so delicious. The fries were made crisp as I requested and the selection of beer included some of my favorites. I was the only local, and my challenge is to find someone who wants to travel 35 mins from Orlando to eat there with me. I keep asking, one day I will get a yes.

Great place if you're looking to get drunk I'm sure. Food is overcooked. Wait staff overworked. Customer service greatly lacking. We ended up waiting an hour for the food and had to just leave.

Only one word for the food at this place. Horrible!

I have a property in Mount Dora and when I visit I like to go and walk around downtown. This week I popped in for a quick bite at the "Lost Parrot". The weather being nice, I choose to sit on the outdoor patio. Place had a decent crowd, mostly tourists , with a couple of tables full of locals. Service was friendly and the speed was average. I ordered the veggie burger which is homemade and found it to be full of flavor. It came with a side salad that was so-so. Price came to 10 bucks for everything and I was in and out in 40 minutes or so. As an aside, they seem to have a decent live music presence in the evening.

Don't recommend eating here. Steak was not cooked to order and was over done and tough. Stuffed shrimp was also overdone. My twice baked potato was not very warm and only a sliver of a potato so barely any filling. Service was ok but she didn't come check on us so couldn't tell her our food was poor. Which was ok cuz I really don't like to complain.

This is an aptly named restaurant that should stay lost! Food is over cooked, tasteless and incredibly salty. I can't think of a single item I'd recommend. It's in the middle of Mt. Dora so you have restaurants everywhere around it - do yourself a favor and select any one of them. It's a pity about the food because the service was great, the location is great and the place is kinda funky, comfortable, outdoorsy decor where you can watch the world go by as you try to swallow the unappealing food!

We enjoyed our lunch on Sunday afternoon. The pastrami sandwich and burgers are great....love the fries too. Very friendly and attentive staff. We will be back.

I ate here with my parents on a mid-Sunday afternoon, before the entree options were available (entree menu starts at 5). We had burgers and sandwiches which were very good. I had the grilled jerk chicken sandwich. The chicken was cooked nicely, not too dry. The fries were a bit heavily seasoned but some people prefer it that way. I had the raspberry iced tea which was good but a bit on the sweet side. It was better when I let the ice melt and water it down a little. The atmosphere is nice and casual, reminiscent of a restaurant in the Keys. There is indoor, air-conditioned seating, or an open air area in the front. Our server James was friendly and attentive. They have live entertainment most nights, but we weren't there long enough to see it. My parents just moved to Mt. Dora and I'm looking forward to returning to this restaurant to try out some of the other menu items.

Quaint restaurant and bar I the midst of downtown Mt. Dora. Food was not great but good. We had Jerk Chicken Wings which were tasty but sitting in a bit too much grease when they were finally brought to our table. Also has Crab Cake Sandwich, just OK. Seafood Festival was in town and this place was quite busy. They did not seem to have enough staff to cover the crowd making service very slow and spotty in execution. Wouldn't go out of the way to dine here nor would I place this one my list of favorites but OK if in the area.

OMG they need AIR CONDITIONING where we were! That floor unit is a joke man. Our server was on the ball and got my bill right for this 16 person table. (presuming all our friends had correct bills also) I'm with Dave O. Once is all you get.

Decent food with a good atmosphere. The restaurant has a Key West theme going on. A lot of island-type cuisine, with tropical fruit, like coconut and mango. My husband loved his fried haddock. It was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Fries had a nice seasoning on them. He rated his food a 4. I had the Black and Blue Burger. This is where I would rate it a 3, average. I ordered it medium rare. Was hoping for a juicy burger but it was lacking in that feature. It was also lacking in flavor. There were 2 strips of crisp bacon and a light sprinkling of blue cheese melted on top. I also added onion to my burger. However, was surprised that there is an upcharge of 50 cents to do so since it's a standard topping on burgers at many places, in the same category with lettuce and tomato. The waitress was friendly and attentive and the prices were reasonable. I would actually rate it a 3.5 if I could.

My mom and I stopped in here for lunch after spending a day at Reningers. The menu looked good, so we decided to give it a try. I must say, that the best part of dining here was the view/atmosphere. Mt Dora is a cute little town, and it was nice to eat right on the side walk. In regards to the service, everyone I encountered was friendly, minus a few of the food runners. In regards to the food, it was mediocre. The coconut shrimp had lime juice added to the batter which threw off the flavor, and the crab cake sandwich was placed on a role twice the patties size, making the sandwich slightly unenjoyable. For appetizers, though, the onion rings and chips with homemade salsa were great. Please be aware, a lot of construction is going on in down town Mt Dora, and I overheard the host saying that they will be tearing up the street outside of the restaurant. They said that due to this they will have the windows and shades closed once construction begins.

The lunch specials were awesome! A great find in downtown Mount Dora. Definitely try it at least once, hard to find great service and food in this area for a low price. Must have the chips and salsa!

Loved it! We got a burger & a club sandwich, both were REALLY good!!! Very nice server also!

After walking the downtown area for several hours we thought it was time to cool down with a refreshing cocktail. Although the reviews are all over the place and we had no intentions of eating here after looking at the photos and reading a few of the reviews we thought how bad can it be. It's a nice looking establishment, live music, open air restaurant with a cozy little bar in the back area. The staff was friendly the drinks were meh! It just wasn't what we expected great name but not a great bar / restaurant. I don't see us returning here

This is for the full bar upstairs Nice place, mostly local folks. Full bar, open late, nice windows and on the second floor. Casual scene that you can go dressed up. Cozy band atmosphere. Find out who is playing, bring a date. The ladies like this place too. Mid priced bar. Good food downstairs.

For a dining experience, I can safely say I don't need to go back to this place. Now, I'm not one to balk at fried foods or anything unhealthy, but the choices of sides are significantly underwhelming. It's either fries or onion rings, and a salad. I thought it was pretty customary these days to have a veggie of some kind, or at least some beans and rice? Either way, what I had was pretty generic. A grilled chicken sandwich. I knew going in that I wasn't ordering anything fancy, but some places like to spice things up with their own flavoring. Not here. It's pretty much what you'd expect if you got it anywhere that churns out clients regularly. Beer selection was decent, and not severely over priced. But since I can get whatever they had at various other places, I don't really see the point to going here for that reason.

  • Leila R.

The service was alright and the food was fairly decent. I'll definitely come back, but it's not anything new unless you're looking for a interestingly decorated place to dine.

  • Shawn J.

We only had an appetizer and a couple of beers here. The service was good, the beers were cold, and the place looked clean. The appetizer was not very good. We read some of the reviews and decided to just go with something simple/safe which was the Coconut Shrimp. There were only 4 shrimp for I believe $9.95, which to us was a joke. The shrimp were slightly over fried (some blackened breading areas), but the fresh Pineapple dipping sauce was quite tasty. I think we will give them another try this fall.

Great spot! Belly up to the bar and make chit chat with locals. They'll tell you how the town works. Grab a cold one and the chips and salsa. Bravo!

  • Alan C.

Well we have options, you can go to a 'farm to table' burger bar, or you can come a place like The Lost Parrot. Well with wifey and me there is only one option. The Lost Parrot Do what we do, go in and order the black 'n' blue burger, one ordered medium the other well done, both perfectly cooked and both juicy. Both burgers come with fries. Add three beers, bill comes to thirty bucks. The Lost Parrot is a must for the perfect burger, we have eaten here numerous times and never been disappointed. Don't forget the specials board too as we have had some treats off that as well!

I was surprised at this place in a good way. The food was unexpectedly good. I ordered onion rings for an appetizer, conch clam chowder, and island shrimp salad. Onion rings were good portion...not huge but good to share with a coupld people. Their conch chowder had a nice kick to it. The island shrimp salad was tasty and big portion but had only 3 coconut shrimps on top :( My husband ordered pastrami sandwich, which was delicious! The service by our waiter was awesome and the food came out pretty quickly, even tho place looked busy. I am glad that I had a positive experience at the Lost Parrot.

Have been a few times now and have nothing bad to say. Sometimes the service is a tad slow but never due to laziness or neglect. It's a great local spot that I will frequently return to! Good food, friendly staff. Haven't been when there was live music playing but I see signs, looking forward to some tunes in the future!

    (4)
  • Justin I.

Excellent service! It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the breeze is rushing through the open windows and the live music is fabulous! Having a strawberry margarita and a club wrap w/sweet potato fries. Food was great!!! Drinks were great! Definitely will be back!

  • Mary C.

The pastrami on rye photo makes the sandwich look much better than it actually was. I will say, I make a MUCH better sandwich at home with Publix brand deli meat! The french fries were just sort of warm as if they were left over from a previous order. Just sort of meh....... And the place was playing blue grass music. Not what I expected from a place called The Lost Parrot. More like the lost cause. Did I mention the restrooms? You won't have to look for them, I could smell the urinal blocks from half way across the restaurant. So many choices to eat in Mt Dora and I had to go here....ugh....Won't go back.

Steak was wonderful and flavorful .... cooked perfectly. Our server was really attentive and overall i had a great time. And it is in downtown Mt. Dora which is always nice.

The reviews all over the place, yes. Perhaps they were with a boring crowd? The beer is plenty, the staff is nice, and the live music is actually good. First time in Mount Dora and I will be sure to return here!

Vile Conch Fritters served by an equally vile waitress, but the burgers were good. We were quickly seated on a busy Saturday evening to a sticky table. I chose the Conch Fritters for our appetizer and they were a dark brown, almost to the point of black, with a greasy and rock-like crust. It came with a remoulade sauce was so BITTER and overpowered by horseradish that it was inedible. Our server was equally rude, with a snippy "your welcome" when she dropped off a dish, amidst our conversation, because we did not stop and immediately make her our focus with a "Thank you." Her coworkers were much friendlier and helped take a group picture, cleared empty plates that she purposely ignored, and refilled drinks she failed to acknowledge. What might have been an utter disaster and a heated discussion with a manager was salvaged by excellent burgers and crispy fries. It was topped with crispy and flavorful bacon and was thick and tasty. My wife's Chicken Salad was also excellent and she really liked the Caribbean flavors. So if you happen to luck out and get the right cook and waitress, the meal can be decent.

Was in Mount Dora back in Dec., now, month later finally rating! Really liked the atmosphere, much nicer inside than expected to grab some lunch, was surprised how , so we sat for a while & just took a break after dragging the husband around to all the stores in town! Would defiantly go back.

Service was atrocious especially for Monday afternoon. Waitresses were playing server, busser, and hostess. Food was decent although not as requested. It took forever to just get our iced teas let alone refills....too many good choices in this quaint little town so you can skip this one.....it is lost

Nice little restaurant with a Jimmy Buffet atmosphere. Wasn't too crazy about our table placement but to be fair it was crowded. Did have to switch my chair with on at another table, kept sinking into the middle! Tried the 12 bean soup which was very good. Not spicy at all, which is the way I like it! Then ordered the Angus burger with which you can choose 2 toppings. I chose the cheddar cheese and mushrooms. Took off the lettuce (a little wilted) and the tomato (not ripe). The brioche bun was a little charred around the edges but was still excellent great. Prices were reasonable. I would eat there again!

Wish I saw the reviews before we decided to eat here. I usually do utilize Yelp which makes this place even more disappointing. I ordered a margarita initially and it was probably the worst one I've ever had. I had them replace it with a piña colada which had good flavor but large chunks of ice. I got about half way through it and have up... Wasn't worth the trouble. We had the friend mushrooms as an app. and they were just ok. The mahi tacos were good but the rice and beans were bland and over cooked. The only plus was the good company... And I brought him with me :) Would not eat here again.

The place has a good location, the exterior look attractive but the reality is that the food lacks of quality.

    (2)
  • Rebecca D.

The food and service was disappointing along with the prices on the menu (considering the food was comparable to chef boyardee). I actually thought the plate of food served to me was a joke until I realized they were serious about the "lunch special."

45 minutes for a burger and a salad! Whole place smelled like a frat house and the a/c was limping. Food was ok. Service was poor. They seemed very understaffed. We will not be back.

  • Katie W.

This place was good to grab a quick bite for lunch. The seating seemed limited, but we really only saw the area that's visible when you walk-by outside. It looked like there may have been another back room with a bar and and upstairs - but we didn't make it that far. The food was decent. My husband and I both had the coconut shrimp salad. Flavors were good, nothing to gush about, but decent for a quick bite at lunch. We sat by an open window, which was a nice alternative to actually being outside. Overall I thought it was a good atmosphere, quick service, and decent food.

I stumbled into this restaurant for lunch, because the cuban cafe across the street was closed. The service is quite subpar. The waitress took ten minutes to seat us, mixed our drink orders up twice, swiped the wrong credit cards for our individual meals, and did not even greet us, thank us for coming, or offered any dessert or appetizer. The restaurant itself is very dingy, and the food OK for the price. Authentic jerk chicken is not made by slobbering stale sauce on a chicken breast. This place is in dire need of a restaurant makeover, and better, more qualified management.

  • Chelsea W.

As far as go to places--meh this place wasn't bad it was really just more of a "everyone in our group is starving and we don't want to spend a lot of money"-place. The restaurant is the way overdone island/Jimmy Buffet theme and I thought it was an odd fit for downtown Mt. Dora but it had a quirkiness about it that was endearing and the burgers really hit the spot. The live music was fun, typical island music but it was just too darn hot to be outside when we visited so we went inside instead. I guess I wouldn't say i would recommend and rave about this place but our service was good, food hit the spot, and it sort of had a loveable cheesy-ness about it that gave it that "A-OK" rating in my book.

Not worth it! Go to Copa Cabana instead! Beer was warm. Onion rings were greasy and "home-made tiger sauce" was not good. Salad was small and they serve it to you with plastic disposable cup of dressing ON your salad. Husband got pork rib-eye and the portion was way too small for the price. I got "hand cut" ribeye and it was full of non-edible pieces. The garlic mashed potatoes tasted like they used too much table salt during boil. Asked for additional side of their Caribbean rice and it was bland. Ho hum. Waitress not very attentive. Granted it was super busy, since it was Art Walk in Mount Dora, but we should have waited at Copa Cabana where we intended on going, but they were even more busy. We won't be back. Oh on a positive note ... The half and half tea was good. LoL

We stopped here while visiting from out of town with some family. We chose it because it was completely open to the outdoors and thought the children would enjoy that. The food was quick and simple. Some sandwiches, a soup of the day, kids foods. Life is good. I had the wedding soup and the salad my brother in law looked good too. He had a tuna? Salad plate. My son ate a chicken nugget basket that was delicious, and my nephew had a PB and J. The service was good and quick. Email: thelostparrot100@aol.com

We found this place to be very relaxing while taking in the views of downtown Mt. Dora. The service was very good and attentive. The menu was complete with Florida favorites like Conch Fritters, Tuna Steak and light salads. We had great salads and sat in an open air outdoor area with a roof that added to the comfortable atmosphere. We'll be back on our next visit to the area!

I'm going to give you the bottom line first since this review has gotten so long :) This place did not impress. They really need someone to stop by each table mid-meal to make sure everyone is happy. We have so many great restaurants in our area, but I don't believe that this is one of them. We arrived in the middle of the lunch hour and they were very busy. Only had to wait 5 minutes for a table though (not too bad). A waitress arrived almost immediately (very prompt) and I ordered a Coke. It came out with very little syrup. I notified the waitress and she grabbed it and took it back without a word. A minute or two later she arrived back at the table with another one and explained that the syrup had just been changed, no problem I thought. I took one sip and same problem. Notified the waitress again and she told me there was nothing she could do, that I needed to order another drink. This did NOT make me happy. I didn't want another drink. I know they were busy but whoever changed the syrup should have run the machine until it tasted like Coke. Who wants a regular Coke that tastes worse than Diet!?! Our food came out very quickly, almost too quickly since we were there to relax. I definitely got the feeling of being rushed. It seemed like they were pushing people in and out. Not a relaxing Saturday afternoon lunch. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I ordered the Jerk Chicken sandwich. I've had amazing jerk chicken in my life and this, unfortunately, wasn't even close to amazing. :/ My friend had a turkey sandwich (nothing special) and a side salad with wilted lettuce. She didn't even pour dressing on the salad and no one (waitress or woman who cleared the plate) even asked if there was a problem. Also, after the food was served we were never asked if everything was okay and didn't receive drink refills until after the plates were cleared. I finally got my Coke, I so desperately wanted, from Chick-fil-A on my way back home. :)

Tried to stay away bit friends wanted to eat here. I had the Cobb salad which was actually very good. I had a bite of a Reuben which was good also. Generous wine pour for $5.50

What a surprise! My fiancee and I were walking through downtown Mt. Dora and began to get hungry. The Lost Parrot looked interesting so we decided to take a chance at someplace new. It was a Sunday, and there was live music. We were greeted with a warm hello, and quickly seated. I ordered the Tuna sandwich, which was delicious. It was a tuna steak, cooked medium rare, served on a delicious bun, and came with fries. The tuna was fantastic! Cooked perfectly, and had a nice texture. The fries were crispy, and had a nice spice to them. My fiancee ordered the daily special - a melted turkey, bacon and chedder sandwich on a croissant. The same excellent fries accompanied. She loved it. The food came out quick, and it was hot. The service was fantastic - quick, and friendly. The beer was cold - I ordered a Killian's - and it was cheap at $2.50. We will definitely go back. I recommend others to check out this place!

My chicken breast sandwich tasted processed and I feared it wasn't cooked enough as it was a little pink. Onion rings had little taste. Had to seat ourselves as we waited but no hostess, waiter, or waitress in sight. It was a cool day and we asked for the fan to be shut off but it wouldn't stop so I was chilly during our meal. But, would be a nice atmosphere if it were a warmer day. Server was friendly and food was prompt. Place seemed a little well used - which would be ok if the food was better. I would never return - too many better choices in town. Others in my group had better meals then I did.

We meet our daughter and her family in Mount Dora, we live near Tampa, she lives near Daytona. We are always looking for new places and good food. We passed up THE LOST PARROT several times in the past. This time we decided to try it. It was a beautiful day, we had the option of eating inside the first area, it is a room with all open windows, no glass , screens, etc. There are fans above and the ambiance was nice. While we were waiting on them to get there, we ordered the breaded mushrooms, it said Hand dipped. they were good and they were hot and juicy. :D If you have not read how they started the restaurant please read it on the front of the menu. Very interesting story and happy ending. When they arrived I ordered the Blackened Tuna steak rare, with a salad, My husband orderd Tuna Steak rare and both were cooked perfectly. Our salads were bigger than they looked. I could not finish mine. My daughter ordered The Cobb Salad. It was large and she ate all she could. Doggie bag time. My granddaughter ordered PB&J she finished some of hers :D she is not a big eater. I cannot remember what my son in law ordered however I do remember he cleaned his plate. It must have been good :D The service was great. As soon as we walked in we were waited on. Cathy kept an eye on all of her customers. Another waitress stopped and asked us if we needed anything ( before our order arrived ) I thanked her and said Kathy has already taken our order. Five of us ate for $71.00 not including tip. that included 1 frozen strawberry daquiri, delicious i might add, and 2 beers. Jamacian I believe. plus water, sodas, She kept our glasses full, took away empty bowls plates etc. Five nights a week they have live music, from 8pm till 11pm or midnight. we will return. In the meantime we will also look for new places and recommend them or not :D Have a great day............

Love the open air atmosphere. Feels like a place you might find in the keys; very relaxed. Great place to grab a beer and people watch. The food wasn't anything special, but would go back.

Great lunch! Love the atmosphere and the food (jerk chicken and buffalo chicken salad) and the beer is ice cold. Perfect Saturday afternoon in Mt. Dora!

This location used to be the Frosty Mug, a great place with quality menu and decent bar selection... I can't say the same for the new restaurant that took over, "The Lost Parrot." It's not bad, it's just the same food that I can get at a college cafeteria with a colorful atmosphere. The service was so-so to begin with, but after a 10 minute wait to get drink orders, our waiter was pretty good. He also apologized for the wait and you could see he wasn't ignoring us, but was just busy. The menu didn't seem spectacular. The Kids menu had three things, chicken fingers, PB&J, and Grilled cheese. All served with apple sauce and fries and a drink. They were out of their proclaimed best item, the tuna sandwich. Most sandwiches and entrees are served with either fries or a side salad. The beer selection wasn't printed on the menu but I did see quality craft beers being served (Terrapin) as well as the major crap beers. One interesting note, there was a guy there with what looked like a pet parrot. I don't know if this is sanitary and should be allowed, but the parrot just hung out on the guys shoulder like he was a pirate.
